Creative AI: judgment before prompts
Generating more options does not always mean finding a better idea. Creative judgment is still what connects an image to a purpose.
Generative tools make it possible to explore visual alternatives quickly. But a surprising image does not solve a communication problem on its own. Before producing it, you need to define what the piece should achieve.
Start with the brief
A useful starting point describes the audience, message, context and constraints. Does the piece need to explain, move someone or invite an action? Where will it appear? Which elements must remain consistent with the brand?
These decisions help evaluate results using something more concrete than personal taste. They also keep the process from becoming an endless search for interesting but disconnected images.
Generating also requires editing
Selection is part of creative work. It is worth checking composition, legibility, anatomy where relevant, inconsistent details and the relationship to the message. A result may work as a reference, a sketch or material for a later composition. Not every result needs to become a finished piece.
- Keep the brief's intention alongside the references.
- Compare options against defined criteria.
- Review details at the actual publication size.
- Adjust the result so it works with the rest of the identity.
The value lies in the decision
Using AI does not remove art direction. It changes part of the exploration process and makes the importance of choosing more visible. The work still needs someone to connect the result with the brand, audience and context.
The useful question is not how many versions can be generated, but which one communicates better and why.
A solid creative workflow combines exploration, review and responsibility for what is ultimately published. The tool offers possibilities; intention gives the result meaning.
